Q: Do I need a referral in order to schedule my first appointment?
A: If you plan to use your insurance for either in-network or out-of network benefits, a referral from your physician is required.
*In some cases, even if you are not planning to use insurance it may be necessary for us to communicate with your physician prior to starting treatment in order to ensure we deliver you safe and effective care.

Q: How long is each treatment session?
A: Initial evaluation and consultation can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 60 minutes depending on what you are coming in for. Follow-up appointments can range between 30 minutes and 2 hours. (OT group sessions range from 30 minutes to 60 minutes).

Q: What does Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) feel like?
A: Our Therapist is trained and certified lymphedema therapist through Dr. Vodder International which is the original method created by Dr. Emil Vodder. While this method is very precise, it is also very gentile, rhythmic and relaxing due to the autonomic response resulting in a decrease in stress response (sympatholytic effect). Additionally, MLD does not cause pain during treatment and can even be easy to fall asleep!.

Q: If I need an intensive combined decongestive treatment phase for my lymphedema, how long does this phase last?
A: Duration of treatment phase is dependent on the severity of your condition. Intensive treatment phases can last anywhere from 2-6 weeks. During your initial evaluation and assessment we will discuss the duration and frequency of treatments that will be necessary and specific to you for achieving quality results.

Q: How do I sign up to join the OT group sessions?
A: OT groups are based on specific topics designed to help you further progress towards goals and improve your wellness path while also gaining a community. Your first step at Open Grounds is to schedule an initial consultation/evaluation and during this appointment we will create a treatment plan together including recommendation of any OT groups available that you may benefit from joining.

Q: My English is not strong, is there a translator available if I need?
A: We have a HIPPA compliant language translation company available as needed if our staff is unable to accommodate.

Q: Is parking available on site?
A: Paid parking spaces are available on location at the facility. Additional free parking is available in surrounding area.
