About Open Grounds Inc.
The mission of Open Grounds is to encompass whole-person care while offering high quality treatments to empower recovery and improve quality of life for individuals living with chronic conditions and challenging diagnoses. Located in Marina Del Rey Clinic, our clinic specializes in treatment for lymphedema, chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), and a variety of other conditions affecting the lymphatic system. Each treatment plan is designed specifically for your unique needs and goals and may involve a variety of components to encompass whole-person care and achieve optimal outcomes. We offer one-on-one occupational therapy treatments as well as occupational therapy group sessions to facilitate treatment progress and support health maintenance. Our team values compassionate, high quality care as well as communication with your healthcare team to best support your treatment process and goals. In addition to our Marina Del Rey clinic, Open Grounds Inc. also operates an occupational therapy program specializing in mental health located within a residential living facility.
Meet the OT
Shaunna Kotka, OTD, OTR/L, CLT-LANA, CMT
Shaunna is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy holding a double specialty in both physical rehabilitation and mental health. Shaunna is a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT-LANA) with over 10 years experience specializing in treatment of lymphedema as well as other conditions affecting the lymphatic system. Prior to relocating to the west coast, she operated a successful private practice in New York City specializing in manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and combined decongestive therapy (CDT), custom compression garment fitting as a part of treatment for lymphedema, CVI and lipedema, and clinical massage therapy and pilates.
Shaunna received her doctorate in occupational therapy from Southern California University of Health Sciences, obtained her bachelors degree in psychology with a concentration in physiological psychology from Hunter College in New York City, Massage Therapy Diploma in clinical manual therapies from Cortiva Institute in Seattle, WA and received additional training from the Swedish Institute in New York City. Shaunna additionally holds massage therapy license (LMT in New York, CMT in California) and she received her certification and training in MLD/CDT for treatment of lymphedema with Dr. Vodder International. Shaunna is also a certified through the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA), is an experienced certified garment fitter and she is certified in the Im=X Pilates method. Shaunna holds a second speciality within the occupational therapy umbrella in mental health, and she operates an additional OT program located within a residential transitional living facility specializing in occupational therapy for adults living with mental illness.
Shaunna began Open Grounds Inc. to help facilitate a higher level of recovery, health maintenance and quality of life for individuals living with chronic conditions and complex diagnoses. She places a high importance on a patient-centered care and a whole-person approach to treatment, and values helping each and every individual discover their unique strengths, overcome barriers and enhance their quality of life through the inclusion of occupational therapy.
